Bear has already started school and completed his first week of kindergarten. He quickly got used to being gone five days a week (he previously went to preschool only two days a week) and he already has a new squad of friends at school.
It took some time and effort for Bear to get to his look, which impressed everyone on my Instagram and IRL:
But you’re probably wondering…the how?
Well, it took a few different places to get achieve this look. Let’s start with the most obvious and must-needed for every back-to-school photo:
The Chalkboard.
I love Etsy. It makes the quirky girl inside squeal with joy. I was looking for the perfect chalkboard I can use for both first and last day of school (or anything really). While there was a wide variety, I chose this one.
It’s big enough (and light enough) for Bear to hold it, but it’s also reversible! Score! $27 plus shipping.
Clothes.
Bear is officially in uniforms now. While that has saved us money (and Bear has plenty of clothes already to choose from), it’s also been a little tricky. Bear is in school five days a week, however, I need to pack an extra uniform for him in case he gets messy (and he will). Originally I thought I needed five uniforms but in actuality, I need about six.
I highly recommend one of my favorite stores – The Children’s Place. If there’s not one near you, they offer relatively cheap shipping. I personally love this store because they offer two things: good, quality clothing at cheap prices. Seriously, you can’t get any better than this. And for those who are frequent shoppers, they also have a store credit card.
The Hair.
I used different products to achieve Bear’s curly hair look and the products I used are simple and affordable:
For shampoo, I used L’Oreal’s EverPure Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Conditioner. You can get this anywhere: Walgreens, CVS, Target, Walmart, Amazon. I mean, it’s everywhere and the combo usually cost $15 total. It gets Bear’s super clean and it smells great.
Topping off the look, I used Shea Moisture’s Curling Butter Cream. It gives his curls a nice bounce and it smells great.
Shoes.
For shoes, we’re a comfy family. While Bear does have a pair of Jordans, he really loves his Skechers and honestly, I love mine, too. We chose this pair from Target! Who knew Target sold Skechers? I surely didn’t!
And they light up! They have a little on/off button on the sides.
Backpack.
Bear is obsessed with everything Minecraft, so it’s only fitting he had a Minecraft backpack. What I love about this backpack is not only does it have an extra pocket in the front for his wipes (I highly recommend you pack some baby wipes for your schoolaged child), but it also has a separate pocket for his tablet inside).
And it was cheap AF, too! Only $17.99
Thermos
Bear has no shortage of sippy cups (I think he has the most he’s ever had at a solid 9. O.O), but he needed something solid to take with him to school and keep his water nice and cold. We picked up this Thermos (Minecraft, of course) and extra straws at Target.
P.S. Hurry! They have a great deal going on right now!
Bento Box
Bear always has a snack packed for his school days, and we finally get to have this Bento Box in use! It’s been a while and I was about to use it for my own lunch before Bear remembered he had it. I can’t be mad, I’m just glad someone is using it, LOL.
I did a review on Bentgo way back when. For a refresher, click here. I can’t get over how much I love this bento box and it’s so easy and convenient for Bear to use. Plus, it’s not heavy so he can easily lug around.
So, that’s it! That’s pretty much how Bear was first-day school fresh! What style or prep ready tips do you have?
